Dressing a kitchen for selling your home can be tricky. There is no need to buy anything new for this room as long as everything is usable. All the kitchen needs is some elbow grease and it'll be good to go.

Tip #1: Cleaning is Key

Most of the cleaning is done today or the night before a viewing. Dirt and grease in a kitchen are a big killer for a sale. Some deep cleaning needs to be done before viewing, as well as a good checklist to work off is as follows:

-           Clean inside your fridge

-           Clean inside your cupboards

-           Clean inside the cooker

-           Refresh any grouting that may have chipped or become discoloured

Tip #2: Declutter the space

In line with the rest of the house, declutter anything unnecessary in the kitchen.

Any appliances like air fryers or cookbooks, etc.

Buyers like to see counter space, so, clear the countertops so that the buyers have a complete and clear view of the space.

Next, we need to declutter the fridges and cupboards.

Throw away as much as possible, keep what you need, and keep it neat and organised in case the buyers have a look for storage reasons.

Tip #3: Floors

With Floors, there is little you can do other than brush and mop to make the floor look as good as possible.

If cracked tiles or worn wood flooring exist, replace them to increase the property's value for sale.

If you are going to replace your flooring in the kitchen, it needs to be easy to clean.

Good choices for easy-to-clean flooring are:

-           Ceramic Tile

-           Wood laminate

-           Natural stone

Tip #4: Walls

As always, with walls, the best choice is a light neutral colour to create an inviting space for the 95% percentile.

An entirely white kitchen can look bland, so if you feel it's necessary, you can always add some colour with some tiling to act as a backsplash and a pop of colour in the room.

If you already have tiles on in the kitchen and want to add colour, add some new tiles coverings over the top.

Tip#5: Cabinets

Many kitchens have three main problems with cabinets, and here's how to remedy them.

1.      Dark wooden cabinets can make the kitchen feel small and cramped; the easy fix is to paint them a lighter or neutral colour

2.      Too many cabinets in a kitchen can make the space feel boxy and cramped. To fix this issue, remove a few cabinets or cupboard doors to create open display shelves.

Creating this open space gives the room some breathing room and creates a focal point for displaying your best mugs or kitchen accessories.

3.      Cabinet doors looking worn or outdated. The solution for this problem is not to replace the cabinets but to change the doors; doors tend to be £15 - £25, so paired with some new door handles, it isa cost-effective and quick way to give a kitchen a makeover.

Tip #7: Lighting

Moving to light around and layering your lighting to create an atmosphere is always a good idea, as the atmosphere sells.

Most homes will have two kinds of lighting in them to create an atmosphere.

1.      Cool-toned spotlight lighting in the ceiling.

2.      Countertop lighting under the cabinets.

Adding these features will cost a lot as you can purchase cool-toned bulbs for your existing lighting and then buy strip lights for under the cabinets.

Tip #8: Create a dining area

In recent years, the new generation of home buyers has been looking for flexible spaces in their house hunting.

This is a simple project. If you have the space, create a little breakfast bar with a table and chairs. Having this variety in dining areas will add more value to your home.

Tip #9: Accessorise

By now, your kitchen will look clean and well-presented. It’s almost ready to sell.

The general rule in the kitchen is that less is more. A few accessories can give it that “show-home " look.

Just intentionally placing items around will pull together the look of the kitchen. Some items that can create this effect are:

-           Flowers/ green plants

-           Kettles and toasters (buy new ones for your home but place them on display now)

-           A fruit bowl

-           Some olive oil in fancy bottles

-           A wooden chopping board

Make sure that these items coordinate with the rest of the kitchen. If not, make the accessories the pop of colour in the room and choose more playful and colourful items to keep the kitchen from looking bland.

By following these steps, you can prepare your kitchen to attract potential buyers.
